Indonesia’s target of 300,000 Chinese tourists is regarded as too low.
Deputy head of Indonesia’s China Mission, Mohamad Oemar, says the country’s target of garnering 300,000 Chinese visitors for 2008, Visit Indonesia Year, is much too small considering China has a population of over one billion.
The target of 300,000 is too low, we could have many more visitors from China than that.
Indonesia had a 600 year old relationship with China, he said, and had plenty of appealing destinations, so there was no reason it should be beaten by other countries in attracting Chinese tourism.
Oemar said that in an effort to gain more Chinese tourists an “Indonesia Week” display/exhibition will be held in Wangfujing, a big shopping mall in Beijing, in September 2008, around the time of the Olympics.
